A discharger is a device that releases electric charge from another source. Dischargers are used for discharging Van de Graff generators, Leyden jars, etc., while avoiding the risk of contact with highly charged objects.
The apparatus comprises of two plated metal curved arms hinged and fitted to an ebonite insulating handle, with a screw and a spring washer, which permit the arms to be adjusted into the required position.
Both the arms terminate in small plated brass spheres.
