The model depicts how the portal venous system is responsible for directing blood from parts of the gastrointestinal tract to the liver.
Large veins that are considered part of the portal venous system include the Hepatic portal vein, Splenic vein, Superior mesenteric vein and the Inferior mesenteric vein.
Thus the model is a useful aid in teaching the unique blood flow of the liver.
It is mounted on a base and numbered with an English key card.
